Play Therapy

Play is a universal language of children and therefore a great way to support healing and the processing of emotions. Materials are used to help children say metaphorically what they can't communicate with words. This approach provides the opporuntity for them to develop social emotional skills while not yet having the cognitive capacity an adult has as their brain is not fully developmed. Items such as puppets, sand tray, games, art, and story telling are used in therapy sessions. Children as young as 3 years old and into the teen years may benefit from play therapy.

Clay Field Therapy

"Clay Field therapy is a Haptic form of therapy using sense-of-touch to relate to and manipulate the resources of clay, water and sponge.
As a child, Adolescent or Adult reaches out to touch the Clay Field, they will automatically receive a response from the clay that will resonate to their body. Whatever the body is needing for healing will be processed in the counselling session. This healing process is what is referred to as a sensorimotor loop; getting inputs from sensory signals and generating motor signals (movement); which in turn leads to a new sensory input."

Family Therapy & Couples Therapy

Sometimes families go through challenges and difficult situations. Family sessions with a therapist can assist in helping the family resolve conflicts, improve relationships, and heal together. We utilize Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy, Theraplay, IFIO/IFS, systems and attachment theories to inform our treatment goals and approach.

Attachment Therapy

The Play Clinic helps parents and caregivers enhance relationships with their children using attachment theory and Theraplay informed practice. "Theraplay is a child and family therapy for building and enhancing attachment, self-esteem, trust in others, and joyful engagement."

Individual Therapy

"Talk" therapy for youth and adults uses models such as Internal Family Systems (IFS) and EMDR sessions to support individuals in working through challenges and stress they are faced with.

Depending on the individual interests and preferences, we also use materials such as art, puppets, sandtray, role play, music or other mediums to support the counselling process with all ages.
